报告题目:Ammonia Fuelling for Maritime Applications

报告简介:The use of ammonia for fuelling applications has been gaining attention worldwide, particularly for its utilization in the maritime sector. Ammonia, a fuel with higher volumetric energy density than hydrogen, presents a unique opportunity for decarbonisation whilst using a chemical fully deployed and produced worldwide. However, ammonia firing comes with several challenges that range from fundamental unknowns to practical challenges for current marine ecosystems. Therefore, this presentation addresses some of these challenges, opening the discussion on how to address some of these issues for progression in the technology. The presentation is divided into several sections that approach ammonia fundamental combustion, use in internal combustion engines, material science, and health and safety aspects to consider when ammonia fuelling for maritime applications are employed.

三、报告人简介:

Professor Agustin Valera-Medina, Professor at Cardiff University, UK; Co-Director of the Net Zero Innovation Institute; Director of the Centre for Ammonia Technology Excellence (CEAT); Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales / Member of the Mexican Academy of Engineering. As Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator, he has led and participated in 33 industrial collaboration projects, working closely with multinational corporations including PEMEX, Rolls-Royce, Siemens, Ricardo, Airbus, and E.ON, with total project funding exceeding £36 million. To date, he has published 221 academic papers (h-index 39), of which 93 focus on ammonia energy and power systems. He led Cardiff University's participation in the Innovate-UK (Decoupled Green Energy) project, led by Siemens, in partnership with STFC and the University of Oxford, to demonstrate the end‑use application of green ammonia produced from wind energy. He currently coordinates multiple projects including SAFE-AGT, FLEXnCONFU, and OceanREFuel, advancing demonstration of ammonia energy applications in gas turbines, internal combustion engines, and industrial furnaces. He has chaired numerous sessions and industry forums at international academic conferences, contributed to two Royal Society policy briefs on ammonia as an energy carrier, and is the author of the book Techno-economic Challenges of Ammonia as Energy Vector.
